Welcome to Next Move Forward. I’m so glad you stopped by, and so hopeful that you are ready to be generous with yourself and make time to take that next move forward. One of the things that, if you know me, you’ve likely heard me say a time or so is that if you are swimming and you’re not moving in one direction or another, you’re just treading water. We all get stuck in situations in our work life, our home life, our spiritual life, our learning life when we find ourselves treading water and probably not even realizing it until we’ve been doing it for quite a while. Treading water is okay for a short time, but let’s decide to pick a direction and swim! That’s where we can accomplish great things, with just little actions, one purposeful move at a time. Pick that next move forward and let’s go!
We often get wrapped up in all we have to do … thinking, planning, and mainly doing all of those “urgent” tasks that come up day to day and just have to be done and are way more important than anything you had planned for the day. Especially those things that can help you grow and develop and in some cases just hold onto your sanity … after all, there are fires to put out, right?
I’m going to encourage you to stop what you’re doing, just for a short amount of time, and think about what you could be doing to move forward in your role, your life, your goals and even your dreams if you could just stop getting stuck with your tires spinning in the mud of the day (or ice if you, like me, are in Iowa in the winter) and start moving forward.
How in the world can you do that, you might ask (yes, I’m being sarcastic), when I barely have time to even think about what I’m having for dinner??? If you’re like most leaders, you barely have time to sit down and think about tomorrow’s schedule, much less concentrate on goals months or years out. And the sad flip side is, if you don’t take that time to concentrate on moving forward, raising the bar, doing the next thing to take you and your business to the next level, you will never get there. It is simply not possible. At some point, you will get tired of spinning your wheels and just accept that you are stuck in the mud.
You’re too smart for that though, right? (the answer is YES!) So let’s make time this year. Let’s set just one goal that you feel like would make a difference in how you manage your time, work on your priorities, communicate better with others, build your team, or even just clean up your email inbox : ) Then set one action step toward that goal and a date to complete that action step, and you’re on your way. One step, one move at a time, you’ll move forward to where you want to be … to living and working and leading to your full potential.
Mark Twain (smart guy and great story teller, and by all accounts a very successful author) is quoted as saying: “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”
I agree with Mark Twain …. let’s get started on that first one and get out of the mud on start sailing down that scenic road to your success!
Cheers to your Next Move Forward!
